Digital Health

The domain of health care has been moving into the digital world relatively late and has started only recently with digitalizing processes and services on a larger scale. Data science and artificial intelligence, in particular, can play a major role for implementing advanced digital health services. An
important enabler is the increased availability of all kinds of health-related data. Digital Health is expected to grow in importance due to factors such as increased life expectancy and more elaborate medical technology which lead to higher costs for public health services and represent a significant challenge to society.

The Expert Group on Digital Health will foster interdisciplinary collaborations with the aim to develop advanced data-driven healthcare solutions that help improve prevention, diagnosis, treatment and after-care as well as remote monitoring. To that end, appropriate approaches for analyzing various kinds of data need to be developed. Among the data to be taken into account are electronic health records, sensor data, omics data (genomics, proteomics, metabolomics) and images, which requires a wide spectrum of data and text analysis techniques.
The Expert Group will also consider new business models that ensure a fair distribution of health costs and favor health conscious behavior of individuals.

The Expert Group on Digital Health will therefore focus on

  • advanced, data-driven services such as early-warning and alert systems or behavioral change support systems
  • techniques for collecting, managing and analyzing health-related data, addressing the specific issues arising such as handling large volumes of sensor data and combining it with other kinds of data
  • economic aspects of health-related services, taking into account whole business ecosystems including patients, care providers, insurances and others.
