NFT-Symposium

Was steckt hinter dem Phänomen NFT? Dieser Frage wollen wir am 02. Dezember in der Aula in Winterthur im Rahmen unserer Expertengruppe Blockchain Technology in Interorganisational Collaboration der Data Innovation Alliance nachgehen. In Zusammenarbeit mit dem Institute for Organizational Viability und dem UZH Blockchain Center veranstalten wir ein öffentliches Symposium.

The ETH AI Center celebrated its first birthday on October 15, 2021, at the AI+X Summit and the data innovation alliance was there to congratulate and to join the inspiring crowd. The day started with workshops.

David Sturzenegger and Stefan Deml from Decentriq organized one of the workshops on “Privacy-preserving analytics and ML” in the name of the alliance.

It was our first in-person workshop again, and such a great experience for us. We gave an overview of various privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs) to a very engaged and diverse audience of about 30 people. We had in-depth discussions about the use-cases that PETs could unlock, and also presented about Decentriq’s data clean rooms and our use of confidential computing. Our product certainly generated a lot of follow up interest, especially from those who wanted to reach out to demo the platform. We were also joined by a guest speaker from Hewlett Packard who spoke about “Swarm Learning”.

Melanie Geiger from the data innovation alliance office attended the workshop about AI + Industry & Manufacturing led by Olga Fink from ETH. The overall goal of the workshop was to identify the next research topics. Small groups with representatives from manufacturing companies mixed with researchers discussed the challenges and opportunities of predictive maintenance, quality control, optimization, and computer vision. We identified research topics such as more generalizable predictive maintenance methods that work for multiple machines or even multiple manufacturing companies. But we also realized that some challenges are more on the operational side or applied research like in the integration of the method into the whole manufacturing process and closing the feedback loop.

In the evening the exhibition and the program on the main stage attracted 1000 participants. We had many interesting discussions at our booth with a wonderful mix of students, entrepreneurs, researchers, and people from the industry. Of course, we also saw many familiar faces and due to the 3G policy, we got back some “normality”.

The NTN Innovation Booster – Databooster powered by Innosuisse is a community with an open innovation culture, in which key players around data-based value creation work together to develop innovation ideas and explore new business areas and approaches. The Databooster aims to bring together actors of all segments to ideate and develop radical solutions.

In doing so, they give Swiss companies a decisive competitive advantage and create important added value for the Swiss economy and society.

We would very much like to draw your attention to the following event and invite you to participate in the idea submission. 

This event is an opportunity for every one of you: who has a cool project idea and is in need of a partner and/or even a feedback on the idea and also persons who don’t actually share an idea there but are interested in listening to them. This is meant for researchers, startups, SMEs as well as corporations. There are ideas shared and there might be just one that strikes you as the thing to do! 

We invite submissions of ideas related to all aspects of data-based value creation. We especially want to solicit ideas in these focus topics, namely: Industry 4.0, Language-based Human-Machine Interaction, Smart Services and Spatial Data Analytics.

Out of all well-defined presented ideas a jury will award the best 3 innovation teams for funding by 10-20 kCHF to further shape or test your idea.

The Databooster Matchmaking event will take place on the December 2, 2021, 13:00 – 17:00, at Fernfachhochschule Schweiz in Zurich (Gleisarena at Zollstrasse 17)

How to participate?

1. Join us if you want to pitch your idea. You get 5 minutes time to present/pitch your case. After all pitches are done, you get 10 minutes slot for 1-on-1 discussions with persons from the audience who are interested in your idea. You could be talking for 10 mins or for the next hour! And if you are interested in any other pitch, you can also go and speak with them!

2. Join us if you want to hear about all these cool pitches, these ideas. Learn what is going on in the minds of these young companies, researchers and professionals. There is definitely an idea that would appeal to you.

Deadlines:

Those wanting to pitch: send your name and innovation idea (200 words, related category) ASAP. We will not accept entries after Nov 16, 2021.

Those not wanting to pitch, but still participate: register latest by Nov 16, 2021.

Number of participants is limited to a maximum of 40 participants.

Save the date and register to present and follow all idea presentations, matchmake with interested parties for project development, research, and learn about specific funding schemes.

Addressing customer needs in a smart way – an end-to-end case study for Condition-Based Maintenance of Laboratory Equipment

Ensuring reliability while minimizing downtime of laboratory analyzers is not just a convenience – it is critical to maximizing a lab’s success and upholding the standard of patient care to which labs aspire. Joining forces with Roche Service Representatives allowed the Roche data science team to empirically test and refine algorithms that prevent replacing a crucial part of the instrument when it is not broken. With this unnecessary instrument downtime is minimized because troubleshooting is eased while reliability is ensured. A staggered roll-out of the algorithm will not only allow the users to provide continuous feedback but will also allow for customized communication, training, and organizational change management creating enthusiasm and buy-in of the people.

Sichere Technikkommunikation trotz Maschineller Übersetzung?

Einsprachig war gestern! Mittlerweile bedeutet Technikkommunikation auch, in mehreren Sprachen technische Inhalte zu kommunizieren. Die Übersetzung von Bedienungsanleitungen kostet bekanntlich viel Zeit, verursacht hohe Kosten und erfordert viel Abstimmungsbedarf. Zum Glück gibt es Translate & Co! Maschinelle Übersetzung macht das Ganze einfacher, schneller, günstiger – oder doch nicht?

In diesem Event setzen wir uns mit der Frage auseinander, wie maschinelle Übersetzung in der Technikkommunikation eingesetzt werden kann, und beleuchten gemeinsam Chancen und Risiken. Zudem geben wir einen Einblick, wie anwendungsorientierte Projekte in diesem Bereich mithilfe von Innosuisse als Kooperation von Industrie und Forschung umgesetzt werden können.
